The ºüÀêÊÓƵ has been shortlisted for the prestigious ºüÀêÊÓƵ of The Year award in the 2025 WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2025, as well as being a finalist in six other categories.

The annual awards, known as the WUSCAs, are based on student feedback, reviews and recommendations. This year’s shortlistings for the ºüÀêÊÓƵ follows success at last year’s awards, which saw the ºüÀêÊÓƵ win the submission-based Career Coaching and Work Placements category, as well as securing second spot in the Career Prospects category.

Other categories the ºüÀêÊÓƵ has been shortlisted for this year are Students’ Union, Facilities, International, Student Support, Postgraduate, and Learning and Teaching.

Professor Jenny Higham, Vice-Chancellor at the ºüÀêÊÓƵ, said she was delighted with the shortlist news.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been shortlisted for ºüÀêÊÓƵ of the Year at this year’s WhatUni Student Choice awards.

“It’s even more special that it is students who have put us forward for this award, the very people who are at the heart of everything we do here at the ºüÀêÊÓƵ.”

She added: “To be shortlisted in seven categories is brilliant and celebrates what we provide here for our students, including our international and postgraduate student communities, and the excellent facilities and support we offer.”

One of the categories the ºüÀêÊÓƵ is shortlisted in is Facilities and this comes on the back of significant investment including the launch of the dental therapy and hygiene degree a year ago, and the new Esports degree starting in the autumn.

Rob Ellis, Associate Professor and Interim Director of Learning and Teaching, said: “The news we have been shortlisted in seven categories is great and really shines a spotlight on the learning and teaching here at the ºüÀêÊÓƵ, as well as the support we offer, including the strength of the Students’ Union.

“We are proud of what we offer students in terms of academic and ongoing support for the whole duration of every student journey here.”

Dionne Walton, Chief Executive of the Students' Union at the ºüÀêÊÓƵ said: "We are proud that the work of the Students' Union in providing a great university experience for students has been recognised.

"The fact that this nomination comes from student views represents everything which we are about: by students and for students."

Winners will be announced on Wednesday 21 May 2025.
